Minister praises community partnership programme

Abbey Community College students (Curtis and Jade pictured above) met with Education Minister, Mr Peter Weir on a recent visit to Monkstown Boxing Club. The Minister praised an ‘education in the community’ programme aimed at improving educational achievement for young people.

The students are taking part in the ASPIRE programme, developed by Abbey Community College in partnership with the club. The flexible learning approach gives students access to a bespoke educational experience, enabling them to succeed and progress in sustained education or employment.

Maria Quinn, Principal, Abbey Community College said,

“This unique programme showcases how effective learning partnerships with others in the community, can have a significant impact on the engagement of young people in education and improve levels of achievement.”
