The award, part of a Gael Linn initiative launched in 2023 in partnership with Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and Ulster University, recognises schools that successfully integrate Irish language and culture into daily school life. Over 80 schools and nearly 15,000 pupils have participated in the accredited scheme, which is funded by Foras na Gaeilge.

Glenlola's success stems from an innovative afterschool Irish club developed through a pilot project with Turas, the Irish-language initiative in east Belfast led by Linda Ervine. The programme has proven so successful that the school fulfilled all criteria for Scoil Spreagtha recognition, with participating pupils achieving their Cúpla Focal Awards.

The recognition highlights the school’s innovative approach to language learning, inclusive ethos and dedication to cultural enrichment.

The award was presented at a special ceremony at Turas, Belfast.

CSSC is the support body for controlled schools in Northern Ireland, representing 49% of all schools, including nursery, special, primary, secondary, grammar, integrated, and Irish-medium schools.
