It all started with a call out from Strandtown Primary School to their school community saying “let’s do something small for something incredible” and that’s exactly what they did by creating their innovative 2.6 challenge.

The pupils recorded and shared their challenges on Dojo. Whilst not in the school setting they joined together in their Strandtown spirit raising money to maintain Action Cancer screening services which remain essential in these difficult times.

A target of £1,000 was set and Strandtown Primary School pupils, parents and staff exceeded it raising £6,407.55.  A massive 527% of the initial target.

Creative ideas included one inventive pupil who walked 2.6km into Belfast dressed as a Dinosaur, gaining some attention from local PSNI Officers! The imaginations of pupils were unlimited with weird and wonderful versions of the 2.6 challenge accepted and undertaken. Other activities included completing 26 laps on a bike, baking 26 cupcakes, collecting 26 pandas (with their very own rainbows), walking 26 metres in front of houses, 26 pieces played on a piano, 26 pieces played on a cornet and 26 rugby catches but not as you know it….. this pupil caught an array of eclectic items!

Thanks to Mrs Hutchinson, Principal of Strandtown Primary School and Richard Ewart, Deputy Vice Principal and Year 7 Year Head for sharing this positive news story. A fantastic example of how schools continue to work together whilst staying at home and keeping safe.

Well done to all!
