Controlled schools participate in CSSC Sign language workshops ‘Engaging with Sign’ a language for you and me

Pupils at Cairnshill Primary School, Mossley Primary School and Waringstown Primary School were the first to enjoy CSSC’s programme of sign language workshops delivered recently by our tutor Anthony Sinclair.

Sign language programme 2022

The programme which is funded by the Department for Communities’ Sign Language Partnership Group is available to schools which are educating children with severe/profound hearing loss. The programme allows the child and their classmates to enjoy 6 hours of interactive and engaging sign language workshops.

Staff in each of the controlled schools are also able to avail of a staff workshop and each school has year long access to an online sign language course which allows the whole school community to engage with deaf awareness and sign language learning.

‘Engaging with Sign’ – a language for you and me will be delivered at the following 10 controlled primary schools.

  • Ballymacash Primary School
  • Cairnshill Primary School
  • Dundonald Primary School
  • Fane Street Primary School
  • Hart Memorial Primary School
  • Hezlett Primary School
  • King’s Park Primary School, Lurgan
  • Meadow Bridge Primary School
  • Mossley Primary School
  • Waringstown Primary School

Tracey Woods, Schools' Support Officer said:

"I am delighted that CSSC is able to respond to the appetite for sign language learning in controlled schools with this innovative and engaging programme. This is the third programme of sign language learning delivered by CSSC and I am delighted that we have been able to expand the programme this year to include an additional two hours of pupil workshops for each school along with a staff workshop and access to an online resource is just wonderful."
