  2. CSSC Award in Excellence in Educational Research

    The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) recognises the positive contribution that research can make to school improvement.

    Each year the CSSC Award for Excellence in Educational Research is awarded to the Stranmillis University College researcher who demonstrates the potential for their research to have a significant impact on learners or practice in controlled schools. A CSSC assessment panel reviews nominated, high attaining dissertations at Master’s level, selecting one recipient to receive the award. 

    CSSC Excellence in Educational Research Award 2023 winner was Janice Hutchinson. 

    CSSC Excellence in Educational Research Award 2022 winner was Taylor Milligan, Taughmonagh Primary School - digital technology.

    CSSC Excellence in Educational Research Award 2021 winner was Sharon Carew, Belfast Metropolitan College - Exploring the sources of spelling knowledge.

    CSSC has disseminated a number of articles, sharing the learning from a selection of nominated students and Award winners. All articles to date are listed below.

  3. Members of the Independent Review of Education Panel announced

    The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) welcomes the appointment of the members of the independent Panel to undertake the review of education.

  4. Millington Primary School 'Plant a tree for the Jubilee'

    Millington Primary School is one of 70 primary schools from across the United Kingdom (UK) selected to receive a Celebration Tree as part of The Queen's Green Canopy (QPC). The QPC celebrates the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and is a unique tree planting initiative which invites people across the United Kingdom to 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'. 

  5. Glengormley High School launch Drone Academy

    CSSC Chief Executive Mark Baker recently visited Glengormley High School to hear about their recently launched Drone Academy from the pupils and staff.  They shared some of learning and skills they gained in the development of the initiative. 

  6. CSSC Award for Excellence in Educational Research Series

    Please read the second of our series of articles, sharing the learning from a selection of nominated students nominated for the CSSC Award for Excellence in Educational Research.  This article is by Sharon Carew, Belfast Metropolitan College (winner of 2021 Award). 

  7. Limavady High School win Pastoral School of the Year Award

    Congratulations to all at Limavady High School who recently won Pastoral School of the Year at the National Awards for Pastoral Care in Education 2021. 

  8. Taking Boys Seriously: Boys as relational learners - Have you signed up to the 10 principles?

    The recent Taking Boys Seriously conference attracted over 400 delegates representing the formal and informal education sectors across Northern Ireland.

  9. West Winds Primary and outdoor learning

    West Winds Primary School and Nursery Unit share with us the outdoor learning opportunities being provided by the school. 

  10. Christmas card competition 2021

    CSSC is inviting Key Stage 2 pupils (Primary 5 -7) from controlled primary schools to design a Christmas themed greetings card.
