CSSC has succeeded in its application to the Department for Communities’ Sign Language Partnership Group to fund a third programme of sign language workshops which will raise awareness of the needs of the deaf community and teach valuable sign language skills.

Michael Allen, Principal, Lisneal College has won The Gold Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School, alongside Marie Lindsay, former principal of St Mary’s College who has won a Gold Award in the Pearson National Teaching Awards for The Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Minster of Education, Michelle McIlveen MLA, has launched an online training programme which focuses on raising awareness of trauma and its potential impacts on children. The online training resource for schools on Trauma Informed Practice was launched at Fane Street Primary School.

Speakers at the 2021 Controlled Schools' Support Council (CSSC) AGM included: Michelle McIlveen MLA, Minister of Education and Mark Baker, CSSC, Chief Executive. The 13 members of the new CSSC Council were ratified and introduced.

The Department of Education has launched a consultation on deferral of the school starting age. CSSC will submit a response to this consultation which closes on 4 January 2022.
