CSSC welcomes report highlighting the impact of Government cuts to children and young people in Northern Ireland.
A report outlining the catastrophic consequences of cuts to education for children and young people in Northern Ireland is welcomed by the Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC).
CSSC continues to highlight how investment in children and young people in NI is significantly less than in children in England, Scotland and Wales. The ‘Consequences of the cuts to education for children and young people in Northern Ireland’ report reinforces the impact of this deficit and explains how lack of funding is disproportionately affecting our most disadvantaged children and young people. It highlights a breach of educational rights contained in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The impact this underfunding has on the lives of all our children and young people is lived each day by our school leaders and their staff.
Mark Baker, CSSC Chief Executive commented:
"CSSC asks the NI Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris MP and Minister of State Steve Baker MP to accept the extensive evidence that continues to be presented demonstrating the unfair underinvestment in education in Northern Ireland."
"CSSC welcomes the ‘Consequences of the cuts to education for children and young people in Northern Ireland’ report. The decision to treat NI differently and provide less money for education than to England has led to the consequences of the cuts outlined."
"Schools and education service providers need consistent and sufficient core funding that is not dependent on in year allocations or one-off payment. The amount provided to schools to deliver education is simply not enough. CSSC hopes that the Secretary of State listens today and takes the necessary action to reverse his decisions."
