Two controlled schools, Abbey Community College and Regent House School, have signed up to the exciting new initiative which aims to build a bridge between education and industry, creating a learning community between global and local companies and schools.

Teachers from the schools will be involved in a year-long programme of mentoring and professional development.  Year 10 pupils will receive teaching sessions plus communication and media training as they develop projects and ideas around the theme of ‘smart cities’.

The programme will culminate students travelling to to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2019 where they will present their ideas on to senior business leaders from around the world.

Abbey Community College Principal Maria Quinn said

This was a really unique opportunity for Abbey Community College.

It enables us to develop strategic partnerships with industry which will open development opportunity for my staff and ultimately will create opportunities for our young people.

The links between industry and education need to be forged more strongly so that we can best prepare our young people for the future and mTech Academy is providing us with a way to do that.

Regent House School Principal Michael Carville said

Regent House School is very excited to be part of this innovative project.

I am looking forwarding to learning from leaders in other industries and the professional development opportunities for staff are fantastic.

The skills staff develop will help them to empower our students to explore the broader opportunities available to them when they leave school.
