British Council opportunity for controlled schools

The British Council's ‘Stronger Together: Strengthening the EU-UK relationship through Youth Engagement’ project offers young people aged 15 – 30 from the UK and EU, the opportunity to connect, cooperate, influence, and implement change on issues of common interest.

British Council Stronger together opportunity

Through the ‘Connecting Schools strand of the project, the aim is to highlight the role of young people aged 15 to 18 as changemakers, active global citizens and leaders at local, national and European levels. This element of the programme will bring together groups of five schools from the UK and the EU in school partnership groups involving 15-18 year olds.

These groups will be guided in their joint work through two facilitated online meetings, with classroom resources and activity/lesson plans etc provided.

This opportunity might be of interest to a particular class within a school (e.g. A-Level Politics, Economics or Geography classes) or used as an extra-curricular activity.

Activities in the Connecting Schools strand will take place from October 2023 until April 2024 and will include:

• Virtual thematic events on topics of common interest, generated by young people themselves through participation in an online survey

• International school partnerships between schools in the UK and EU, working together on social action campaign projects - Winners of the School Partnerships Competition will have the opportunity to attend a funded trip for one Teacher and three Students to an international face-to-face workshop on digital campaigning for social purpose in London in April 2024!

There are five places ringfenced for Northern Ireland and schools will be selected from across Northern Ireland, as well as from the various post primary school sectors.

Deadline for submissions of an expression of interest is close of play on Thursday 15 June 2023.
