Building Capacity programme supports the building of the capacity of staff to embed evidence-based practice, conduct rigorous self-evaluation and promote school improvement.

Module One takes place over an academic year and supports senior leaders to address one strategic priority in their School Development Plan to improve learning and teaching. The programme has three days of interactive, evidence-based sessions with opportunity for coaching/mentoring.

Module Two is a coaching programme delivered in a Systemic Team approach over an 18 – 24 month period. The programme aims to develop a more cohesive, strategic thinking and effective Senior Leadership Team. 

Module Three delivers Level 2 Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) training at a whole school level and considers how TIP influences school ethos, policies and practice. Schools should have already completed the EA online Adverse Childhood Experiences Level 1 TIP training.

CSSC has developed this training opportunity to give governors of controlled schools the opportunity to consider and reflect on the importance of ethos and the role they have as governors in developing ethos in our controlled schools. Module Three commences with a ‘Coaching Approach to Leadership’ day and offers up to 7 hours personalised coaching for Principals. The module will facilitate focused conversations, reflective thinking and positive mindsets to enhance skills and actions.

Module One develops effective and purposeful communication, particularly in relation to the ethos, mission and values of the school. Participants will examine essential communication skills based around four areas:

• Listening and Comprehension Skills
• Verbal Skills
• Writing Skills
• Interpersonal Skills

Module Two this module will be an interactive session held in a media studio with an opportunity to look at interviewing techniques and a practical workshop to film (TV/radio) interviews in a safe space.

The communication modules offered are to empower participants as they communicate as controlled school leaders. This workshop forms part of CSSC's Ethos and Leadership programme. 

These seminars will facilitate the development of the ethos toolkit for controlled schools, which has been developed over the past year. There will be representation from schools that were involved in the pilot along with others who will share their ethos journey.
