Three controlled schools recognised for exceptional pastoral care

Three controlled schools have been recognised for their exceptional pastoral care at a special awards ceremony hosted by the Department of Education and the Public Health Agency.

Tullygally Primary School, Craigavon, Carrick Primary School, Lurgan, and Knockavoe School, Strabane were presented their awards at the Derrytrasna Awards ceremony at Stormont by Dr Mark Browne, Permanent Secretary, Department of Education.

The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care award was created by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Public Health Agency in 2014 and seeks to recognise through nominations, those school communities that have demonstrated exceptional effort in supporting the pastoral care of pupils and their families.

Mark Baker, Chief Executive, Controlled Schools’ Support Council commented:

“I congratulate the three winning controlled schools on their commitment to exceptional pastoral care and their continued support for the wellbeing of children and young people. Controlled schools are at the heart of the community they serve and these awards honour that hard work and commitment.”

CSSC supports 547 controlled schools in Northern Ireland to include nursery, primary, secondary, grammar, integrated, special & Irish-medium schools.
