£80 million investment in schools welcomed to include Abbey Community College

CSSC welcomes the news that an additional £80 million of capital funding for education will allow fifteen new build, extension and refurbishments projects to proceed to construction. The funding will also support the launch of a new programme of curriculum-led investment.

Abbey Community College, Education Minister and pupils

Abbey Community College, a controlled school based in Newtownabbey is included in the recent announcement by Minister of Education, Paul Givan. The school will benefit from the release of funds to enable the school to move forward to the procurement and construction phases of new project.

The school population has grown by 300 since opening in September 2015 and the state of the art facilities that the new school will bring are much needed by staff, students and wider community.

This substantial investment ensures that the school’s aspirational school motto of ‘Believe Achieve Succeed’ will be enhanced for all the young people who attend Abbey Community College into the future.

Maria Quinn, Principal, Abbey Community College commented:

“We are indebted to everyone who has worked alongside us to reach this significant milestone. The design and planning work is becoming a reality.”

Controlled schools are #OpenToAll, welcoming children and young people of all faiths and none, richly diverse and inclusive, reflective of and embedded in the communities they serve.
