£40 million investment in schools welcomed

The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) has welcomed the announcement that an estimated £40 million is to be invested in schools.

Chief Executive Barry Mulholland said,

“Investment in the schools’ estate is essential to support high quality education for all pupils.  CSSC very much welcomes today’s announcement by Education Minister Peter Weir that approximately £40million is to be made available to these 16 schools. The decision to consider a third call for applications to the programme, as part of the overall capital investment strategy is also welcomed. 

“The School Enhancement Programme (SEP2) is a cost effective way to enable schools to improve their facilities and I look forward to learning more detail about the projects that will now progress.

The controlled schools who will advance in design from this announcement include: 

Greenisland Primary School, Carrickfergus

Hart Memorial Primary School, Portadown

Kilbride Central Primary School, Doagh

Strandtown Primary School, Belfast

Ashfield Boys’ High School, Belfast

Carrickfergus Grammar School

Clounagh Junior High School, Portadown

Hill Croft School, Newtownabbey

Clifton School, Bangor
