Minister visits Carrick Primary School’s Nurture Unit

Carrick Primary School was one of 15 schools to receive funding from the Department of Education for their nurture unit. The school has been self- funding nurture intervention for several years.

Nurture groups assess the emotional needs of the child and give them the necessary help to remove barriers to learning. The school believes this help is as vital as literacy and numeracy small group support.

The visit was supported by Education Authority nurture staff, Department of Education and Carla Lockhart (DUP) MP for Upper Bann. The visit gave staff the opportunity to discuss the work at Carrick Primary School during lockdown when school was open for children in the designated categories and also school re-start.
