Dromore High – best ever A level results

Jubilation abounded in Dromore High this week as the school community celebrated its best ever set of A level results.

Dromore High pupil, Headmaster, Governor and CSSC Chief Executive celebrate results

Headmaster Mr Ian McConaghy reflected the joy of everyone connected with the school at the news of the superb performance, saying

“The collective efforts of our whole school community has made these results possible including our senior pupils themselves who deserve great credit along with all the staff who worked with them and their very supportive parent, truly a team effort”.

The top pupil was Christopher Murray who achieved 4 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics, a splendid achievement.

Mr McConaghy continued

“These results will have opened the doors to a variety of options for our pupils. Third level education and university degrees will be the next step for many of our pupils as a result.

“It is an indication of the dedication of our staff that such positive results can be attained during a period when schools are seriously underfunded and facing unprecedented pressures.

“The results reflect the high quality, wide-ranging sixth form experience offered here in Dromore High which prepares pupils not only for the rigours of the exam process but also for their future careers.”

A tremendous 82% of upper sixth pupils achieved 3 A*-C grades, an outcome which puts the pupils’ achievements into the upper echelons of schools across the province.

Mr McConaghy concluded,

“These leavers will join our past pupils in universities across the UK. In September they will be commencing third level courses in a variety of university faculties.

“Some of our pupils will choose to study locally at the Regional College and some may choose to move straight into higher level apprenticeships or employment. Our pupils know that whatever their individual grades, we are rightly proud of their hard work, commitment and of their achievements.”

In congratulating all pupils Mr McConaghy made specific mention of some outstanding individual successes.

Our top pupils at AS level were Philip Gault, Alexandria Harbinson and Chloe Richardson.

“As our pupils leave us to embark on the next stages of their lives we wish them God’s blessing and every success in their future endeavours. As they embrace their next challenges we trust that our all-inclusive and caring ethos will have made a significant impression on their lives enabling them to be a positive influence wherever they are.”
