Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) comment following Craigavon Senior High School development proposal approval

It has been announced that the Permanent Secretary for the Department of Education has approved development proposal 574, which proposed Craigavon Senior High School operate on a single site, 26-34 Lurgan Road, Portadown.

Mark Baker, CSSC Chief Executive commented: 

‘Controlled schools are embedded in, serve, and are connected to their local communities. Craigavon Senior High School (CSHS) is part of the Dickson Plan, which serves the needs of the Craigavon, Lurgan and Portadown communities.'

The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) welcomes the decision made by the Permanent Secretary and the clarity it provides for the future of CSHS.  CSSC will support the Education Authority (EA), CSHS and all stakeholders to make the transition to one campus.'

‘CSSC also welcomes the announcement from EA to seek major capital investment for the construction of a new build Craigavon Senior High School, on a location to be determined, pending Department of Education approval and funding being obtained, as well as taking forward proposals for Post 16, and Specialist Provision, in the new year.
