Mark Orr QC is a practising barrister and a Queen’s Counsel, specialising in contract, commercial, property, trust and tax law.  He is chairperson of the Board of Governors of Banbridge Academy and former governor of Dromore Central Primary School.

Commenting on his appointment Mark Orr said:

Mark OrrIt is a great honour to be appointed as the first chairperson of CSSC.

These are challenging times in the controlled sector and it will be my aim to ensure that the CSSC plays a leading role in maintaining and improving the standards of education of our children and young people.  In times of budgetary constraint, the welfare of all pupils, and teachers, must be paramount.

Vice-chairperson, Andrew Brown, is a Principal Lecturer in Teacher Education, Academic Head of Arts and Humanities, a member of the Academic Leadership Team, and Head of the BEd Primary degree at Stranmillis University College, Belfast. He chairs the State Education Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the Board of Governors of Broughshane Primary School.

Andrew Brown said:

Andrew BrownI am delighted to have been elected as the Vice-chair of CSSC and to be involved in the early development of the organisation.

For too long, the controlled sector has lacked a coordinated voice which will articulate the ethos, values, and needs of the sector, whilst at the same time celebrating all the wonderful things which happen every day in controlled schools.

The CSSC is that voice and its establishment ends this long-standing deficit in the education system; I am honoured to be part of it.
