Bangor Academy showcase ‘Jellyfish’ Art

Bangor Academy’s Year 8 pupils had lots of fun making and decorating clay pinch pots. This was part of the ‘Save Our Seas’ art curriculum unit focusing on reducing plastic pollution in the oceans.

They collected their own single use plastics, wrapping paper and wool to add the tentacles.

The jellyfish were then hung in front of an underwater backdrop, created with pastels on coloured paper.

A fan was used to animate them and they were also manipulated by hand. It was filmed in slow motion and edited on ‘i movie’ with captions and a soundtrack of music and bubbles added in to enhance the underwater effect.

The final result is a fantastic and captivating video showcasing the creative work of pupils.

Janet Boal, Head of Bangor Academy Art and Design Department, commented,

“The jellyfish video is a great example of how we work together in Bangor Academy Art department. From Mrs Traynor’s project idea, to the Year 8 pupils creating the ceramic jellyfish with her guidance, to me jiggling them on strings and using a hair dryer to create movement, while our talented technician, Andrea, filmed and produced the final video. A real team effort.”
