The Building Capacity: Leading Improvement publication brings together 23 case studies from controlled schools who participated on CSSC's Building Capacity programme.
The publication is organised around five themes.
Under Great Teaching First, leaders including David Corbett of Gilnahirk Primary strengthened reading fluency and writing across their schools.
Every Learner Included, Nuala McGranaghan of Cedar Lodge School developed communication and sensory support for pupils with complex needs.
Melissa McCombe of Kilrea Primary led work on ethos and school climate.
Ross Coulter of Ballycarrickmaddy Primary developed collaborative professional practice.
Under Growing People. And in Spaces That Shape Learning, leaders transformed outdoor environments to enhance engagement and wellbeing.
The publication serves as a reference for current participants of Building Capacity programme and provides clarity for future cohorts, and acts as a stimulus for other schools, demonstrating what is possible through evidence-informed leadership.
The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) initiated Governor engagement sessions that were delivered during meetings at the request of Governors of individual member schools within the controlled sector. The following report provides an analysis of the discussions during the 103 engagement sessions which took place from December 2018 to June 2019.
This report provides a snapshot of shared education practice across the controlled sector and the partnerships that exist. It showcases the actions some schools have taken to develop shared education projects, as well as exploring the benefits, challenges and pitfalls.
To ensure that CSSC is meeting the needs of the controlled sector, all member schools were given the opportunity to share their views through a survey sent to member schools at the end of February 2019.
This analysis explores the responses given by school Principals and will help to shape CSSC’s programme of work and ensure that the work it does is beneficial to controlled schools individually, and for the sector as a whole.
