School Ethos 2024/25

This theme assesses, explores and affirms the identity of a school through an audit of its ethos and the creation of an agreed ethos statement. Facilitated by CSSC and using the CSSC Self-Evaluative Ethos Toolkit schools can revisit their values, vision and mission and consider how to consolidate their ethos through policies and procedures. There is the potential for schools to explore how their ethos reflects trauma sensitive approaches.
School Ethos One (Exploring Ethos) facilitates the defining, or redefining, of the school’s ethos, with all stakeholders. Through this collaborative approach the school will establish an agreed ethos statement. This introductory module can complement the School Development Planning cycle.
Duration: Half-day
Delivery: School based
School Ethos Two (Values, Vision and Mission) determines how the ethos statement is reflected in the values, vision and mission of the school. Schools will collaboratively agree a mission statement and identify core values to celebrate throughout the school year. This is a progressive developmental module which builds upon School Ethos Module One.
Duration: Half-day
Delivery: School based
School Ethos Three (Embedding Ethos) confirms the importance of working to embed school ethos alongside the school’s vision. The vision for the school is explored and consideration given to how key messages about the school’s ethos are communicated. Whole staff action planning is used to assist in the identification of key policies which may need to be reviewed in line with school ethos. Participants will reflect and consider values with the hidden curriculum in mind.
