CSSC analysis of the controlled schools sector
The Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) has undertaken a baseline assessment of the controlled education sector in Northern Ireland. These figures are based on the 2016-2017 academic year.
A briefing document, the ‘Analysis of the controlled schools sector’, and associated infographics, are now available to download.
CSSC’s analysis shows that the controlled education sector is as follows.
- The largest education sector in Northern Ireland, accounting for 48% of all schools, catering for over 140,600 children.
- Providing education across all school types – nursery, primary, secondary, grammar and special schools.
- The controlled sector also includes a number of integrated and Irish medium schools.
- Providing education for children of all faiths and none, plus over a third of newcomer pupils in Northern Ireland.
