Realising your potential on International Women's Day

A panel discussion comprising Maria Quinn, Abbey Community College, Michelle Rainey, Ballyclare High School, Heather Murray, Millington Primary School, Grace Trimble, Kilkeel Nursery School and Gillian Dunlop, Largymore Primary School explored issues faced by women working in education.

This was followed by a workshop, led by Michelle Rainey, to identify challenges faced and, of course, potential solutions.

Following the event, Head of Marketing, Research and Communication Sara McCracken said,

During the listening events held last year, we heard female school leaders outlining how isolated and unsupported they felt.   While this feeling of isolation is not unique to females, it is something CSSC will continue to try to address.

Professional support in terms of leadership development in schools is an integral part of raising standards, and building professional capacity and capability of school leaders should be viewed as a priority if controlled schools are to continue to raise pupil achievement and raise standards.

The feedback from the event has been incredibly positive, and CSSC will now bring forward recommendations to ensure that female school leaders are enabled to realise their potential.
