Portadown College sports pavilion official opening

Mr Simon Harper, Portadown College Principal, was delighted to welcome special guest Dr Rory Best OBE, former student and Ireland rugby captain, to open the school’s new sports pavilion and gym on 19 September 2018.

CSSC Chief Executive Mr Barry Mulholland attended the event alongside Ms Sharon O’Connor (Chairperson, Education Authority), Mayor Julie Flaherty (Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council), college governors, local MLAs, and principals of contributory junior high schools.

Mr Mulholland said

“I was delighted to be invited to the event and to see the fantastic new facilities at Portadown College.

“The state of the art equipment will benefit both pupils and teachers and will, I am sure, encourage the students to perform to the best of their ability in sport.”

Mr Peter Aiken, Chairman of Portadown College Board of Governors, highlighted the notable benefits the investment would bring to the College’s young people, staff and community.

In officially declaring the pavilion open, Dr Best said it was, “an honour to be back” at Portadown College and expressed his hope that the high quality facilities would inspire a new generation of sportspeople in the school.
