Markethill High School has announced today, Thursday 24 August, that they have set a new school record for five or more GCSE passes at A* - C, with more than 94% of pupils achieving this.
The school has continued to improve results year on year and this is not the only school record they have broken with attainment rates.
Over 70% of pupils are leaving with five or more passes at A*- C including English and Maths, an incredible 8% increase on last year.
Of particular note is the very strong performance of boys in GCSE English, with a record number of boys passing. Additionally, the Maths GCSE has hit a new pass rate, with four out of every five pupils now passing this exam.
Principal James Maxwell spoke of his pride in his school and pupils.
"We are absolutely delighted. I pay tribute to the dedication, hard work and sheer professionalism of the staff here at Markethill High. They always go above and beyond to ensure our pupils are exceptionally well catered for, both academically and pastorally.
“The results are also a clear vindication of this school’s unrelenting priority to develop high-quality learning experiences in the classroom.
“Additionally, behind every single grade is a story. A number of our pupils had challenges during the course of their GCSE studies including ill health. I want to convey my pride and admiration at the achievements of those pupils."
