Shane McCurdy, Interim Chief Executive of the Controlled Schools’ Support Council (CSSC) said,

“CSSC was pleased to contribute to the Panel’s enquiry on behalf of controlled schools. Educational underachievement is a significant issue in Northern Ireland which impacts the lives of many children and young people. We welcome the publication of the action plan brought forward and the eight key areas highlighted by the enquiry."

As the support body for the controlled education sector, CSSC is committed to supporting all controlled schools in tackling the barriers to learning.

CSSC agrees with the Panel’s assessment that addressing educational underachievement brought about as a consequence of social-economic disadvantage is an issue which extends beyond education alone. Addressing disadvantage will benefit pupils and society as a whole.
